May

The beginning of May we said good bye to our school teachers. We had a beautiful evening of singing and enjoying our mission family one last time before changes started happening.

The next morning we took them to the airport. We happened to be in the right area at the time and watched them take off.
We visited the Science Museum in Accra. Without comparing it to US museums it was very interesting.

This was quite a find! And they had Dr. Pepper. Only at certain stores in Accra can you find such treasures!
The next morning we picked up Kerek and Adriana Zimmerman at the airport. They took over the palm press after overlapping with Joel and Marcie Burkholder for the rest of May.

And then rainy season began. And it hasn't stopped raining. We enjoy every glimpse of the blue skies we get.

We usually avoid going away when it is raining but when it rains most days, some days you just need groceries. One morning Cape Coast was very flooded.

One rainy morning the house was quiet and everyone was happily in their favorite spots. Brent with his legos.

Kelsey finished 9th grade.

Kenny in his favorite chair with a book.

And Austin working on a model.

We have been doing the Lamp and Light Bible Courses in two of the local schools. Kelsey does all the checking tests and entering scores into a spread sheet. And getting the next stack ready to go out. Kenny makes sure they get to the right people and sometimes one of the children go with him into the schools to help hand out books. There are about 150 people doing the course, so its an almost daily project. After the first 4 books they get a Bible Story book and after 4 more books they get a Bible. It is encouraging to see how enthused they are and how many Muslims and children from all walks of life are doing the courses. Several adults have asked for books as well and one church is doing it with their members. Eventually we want to expand into more schools or villages but this is giving us a feel of what to expect.

Visiting with our visitors one Sunday. Sometimes the boys complain about all the people that are in and out of our house, other times they enjoy the conversations. It reminds me of all the evenings we spent visiting grandparents when I was a girl,

Boys and their toys! Austin loves mechanics and anything that runs. And Kenny enjoys teaching him how things work.

Did I mention it has been raining? Our church building has flooded a handful of times. I am so glad it waited till school was over and all the books were moved out.

We are thankful Living Hope allows us to use their other pavilion for church when our church yard looks like this.
We attended the funeral of the father of one of the young men from our church.

One morning we left very early for the airport to pick up my sisters and nephew. Unfortunately the road work plus rain equals large mud holes. A vehicle must have gotten stuck because we sat for over an hour. Then we hit work traffic and in total it took 7 hours to get to the airport. They had a long wait!

Pictures from the ride home.

And that is the end of May. Life has been hurrying along, but hopefully I can catch up on blogging over the next few days.
