People Need The Lord
Everyday they pass me by,
I can see it in their eyes.
Empty people filled with care,
Headed who knows where?
On they go through private pain,
Living fear to fear.
Laughter hides their silent cries,
Only Jesus hears.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
When will we realize, people need the Lord?
We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right.
What could be too great a cost
For sharing Life with one who's lost?
Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear.
They must hear the Words of Life
Only we can share.
People need the Lord.
This song has long been a favorite of mine. So many times I sing it in my head. When I sit with a friend and hear her story of being trained in traditional spiritual worship as a child. (We praise God she is now a vibrant Christian with a story that should be told!) When I listen to another friend pour out her troubles and how she believes the lie that no one loves her. When I sit at a funeral and watch people grieve with no hope, with a sorrow so deep and raw. When I look into eyes: old eyes in a young face, blood shot eyes, lifeless eyes, dark eyes full of stories of hardship. The tears fall inside. And my heart cry is "people NEED the Lord!"
Do we ever appreciate what being a Child of God means? And what it doesn't mean? It doesn't mean we will always have sunny skies, perfect lives, and an easy road. But it does mean that God gives us strength to deal with life. It means that we try our best to live in peace with fellow man and because we do that, things often do go well. It means we are committed to our marriages and our family. It means we help each other up instead of push each other down. It means we love. The older I get, the more I listen to people share their stories, the more of the world I see; the more I am assured that the answer to all the worlds problems is simple, PEOPLE NEED THE LORD!
